Daanish Books in collaboration of like-minded individuals and organizations set up this Foundation in memory of Prof. Jai Narayan Mishra (1935-1984) in 2010. He was, as a teacher of political theory and thought at Patna College, instrumental in nurturing and shaping academic career of his students and colleagues. He has been a source of inspiration to everybody who came in his contact. Inspired by socialist ideals he represented Shahpur constituency in Bhojpur in Bihar Legislative Assembly during 1977-1980.

 

The aims and objectives for which the Foundation is established shall be as below:

  • To establish an institution specializing in research in social sciences, which will strive to act as a bridge between formal academics and activism at grassroots level, and between theory and practice, and start sustain and strengthen process of dialogue across social, cultural and ideological divides.

  • To start, establish, run, take over and manage and maintain any other educational/development institutions with an object to cater to the needs of weaker sections of the society.

  • To establish, found and maintain libraries, and reading rooms for the use and convenience of general public.

  • To promote literacy, cultural and social activities by awareness porgramme, adult education classes, lectures, essay competitions, exhibitions, symposia, cultural programmes, press conferences and seminars etc.

  • To undertake the compilation, printing and publication of pamphlets and books on various social and other relevant issues, especially focusing on enriching the knowledge of diversity of Indian culture and its composite heritage.

  • To develop a series of books suitable for school going children, containing simple stories from classics in Hindi and other local languages.

  • To arrange and organize maternal and child welfare programme/activities.

  • To conduct vocational education guidance, training and skill development programmes and according software development, computer programming, communication, IT, electronic and printing technologies development and utilities, vocational education, research training and development programmes and award certificates.

  • To organize activities for the promotion of physical, mental, spiritual; and educational development and upliftment of adults and children without any distinction of caste, creed or religion etc and in the interest of mankind, in general.

  • To aid, establish, takeover or collaborate with any institution or association, having identical aims and objectives as that of the Foundation for Physical, social and educational development for upliftment of society.

  • To establish any institution or adopt means for promoting any art, science or knowledge in any other field of education, propagating for removal of social evils, customs or for promoting self help to overcome these evils in society.

  • To establish any institution or society for the welfare of victims of natural calamities and to provide the food and shelter to needy person from time to time.

  • To accept donation or raise subscriptions from members of the Board of Trustees or from any other person and to invest the funds of the Foundation with individuals, societies, firms or companies, for providing income to the Foundation, on such terms and conditions as may be deemed proper and necessary for fulfilment of the aims and objects of the Foundation and to further its interest as enumerated above.

  • To undertake innovate projects in field of integrated rural development, Human Resource Development. Health and Family Welfare, Science and Technology, Social Justice and Empowerment, Environment and forests studies management, Conservation and Development, Communication and Electronics, Information Technologies and Youth and Sports.

  • To engage or hire appropriate staff, workers, legal experts and other professionals, managers and agents for the work and furtherance of the aims and objects of the Foundation and to pay their salary or wages or fees etc.

  • To purchase/acquire land and/or building in the name of the Foundation and make construction thereupon for the fulfilment of the aims and objects of the Foundation.

  • To do other things/acts/activities which are necessary and which may be incidental or conducive to achievement of any of the object of the Foundation.
