At Daanish Books our focus is on publishing and distributing books that can be vehicle of social transformation. Our working philosophy is “from the people, to the people.” Teams of professional editors and marketing experts backed by the active support of socially committed academicians help us in our endeavours.

At Daanish Books we intend

• To take forward this initiative of a group of activists in independent and alternative publishing;
• To represent the most incisive writing on the increasingly complex and challenging contemporary situations;
• Along with academic books, to also develop a series of books and pamphlets in local languages which can be of help to individuals and groups working at the grassroots;
• To act as a bridge between the worlds of theory and practice and between academics and activism;
• To initiate and strengthen the process of dialogue both across cultural and social divides and between diverse political/ideological streams—socialist, liberal, Gandhian, nationalist, and the radical Left.

Daanish Books also has plans of extending this engagement to the entire subcontinent, to the emerging new thinking elsewhere in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Islamic world, and into the search for alternatives in both Europe and the former socialist world, each of which is facing serious crises of both survival and identity.
